HYDERABAD, May 11, 2026 — In a major move toward sustainable entertainment infrastructure, Allu Cinemas at Kokapet has officially partnered with Freyr Energy, one of India’s leading rooftop solar companies, to commission a 727 kW solar power system.

This “Powerhouse” collaboration represents one of the largest solar deployments for a cinema complex in the region. The project is designed to transform how high-energy commercial spaces operate, proving that cinematic luxury and environmental responsibility can go hand-in-hand.

The Project: Solar-Powered Cinema

The rooftop installation at the Allu Cinemas facility in Narsingi involves a significant investment of ₹2.27 crore. As movie theaters are notoriously energy-intensive—requiring massive amounts of power for projection, sound systems, and climate control—this shift to renewable energy is set to redefine operational efficiency in the industry.

Key Statistics of the Installation:

  • System Capacity: 727 kW Rooftop Solar System.
  • Energy Offset: The project is expected to meet nearly 60% of the multiplex’s total energy requirements.
  • Financial Impact: Annual electricity costs are projected to drop from approximately ₹52 lakh to nearly ₹5 lakh, resulting in estimated annual savings of ₹77–₹80 lakh.
  • Carbon Footprint: The switch is estimated to reduce 750 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually.

Innovation in Maintenance

To ensure the system maintains peak performance in the dusty environments often found near urban construction zones like Kokapet, the installation features automated high-pressure sprinkler mechanisms. These self-cleaning systems reduce the need for manual maintenance and ensure that the solar panels operate at maximum efficiency throughout the year.

A Vision for Sustainable Entertainment

Speaking on the partnership, renowned producer Allu Aravind of Allu Cinemas stated that the transition to solar is a practical step toward integrating clean energy into daily cinema operations.

“Cinemas consume large amounts of electricity. This shift to solar energy allows us to significantly optimize power usage while improving long-term operational efficiency,” Aravind noted.

Radhika Choudary, Co-Founder of Freyr Energy, highlighted that solar adoption is becoming a strategic choice for movie theaters. By reducing dependence on conventional power grids, establishments can significantly lower operating expenses while supporting global sustainability goals.
